Hubby’s 50th birthday is coming soon, on the 11th of September or 911. Starting today, I am going to list as many birthday gift ideas as possible to let hubby pick the most unique 50th birthday gift for him.

If for whatever reason that he can’t make up his mind by the 11th of September, I will just gift him an Amazon.com Gift Card. He can buy whatever and whenever he wants when he is ready.

What about a Fountain Pen? The thought of gifting hubby a fountain pen just flashed across my mind while accompanying him having breakfast this morning.

It makes a great birthday gift for him as he is now a full time high school teacher. What a practical gift for everyday use!

If you think gifting your loved on a fountain pen as this year’s birthday gift is a fantastic idea, here are a few tips for making choosing the best pen easy and enjoyable.

Tip #1 – Focus on Your Man’s Preferences, not Your Own. Put yourself in his shoes and you’re off to a good start.

Tip #2 – Type of Pens. There are three choices: Fountain Pen, Ball Point Pen and Rollerball Pen.

Which type of pen that your husband uses as an everyday writing instrument? How about for special occasions like signing documents or writing personal correspondence? What is his or her profession? Answering these questions will help you determine the type of pen you are going to gift him.

Tip #3 – Evaluate His Handwriting Sample. This is especially helpful if you’re going to pick out a fountain pen. A fine nib is your best bet for smaller writing or writing that has slimmer lines. On the other hand, a medium to broad sized nib works well for writing that’s larger and darker.

Tip #4 – Decide on the Price Range. By deciding on the price range of the pen, you narrow the field and not get too distracted.

Of course for more choices, you’ll have to raise your price range a bit. Sometimes a slightly more expensive pen will make a big difference in quality, performance and appearance.

Tip #5 – What’s His Style? Is he traditional, a trendsetter or somewhere in between? You can easily get your clues from his personal or business attire, accessories such as watches, jewelry and eyewear, even what car he drives to make picking a pen brand, finish and color easier.

Update: My eyes rolled wide and my jaw dropped when I saw this Curtis Australia Wildlife Warriors Endangered Species LTD Gem Set (6pcs) Fountain Pen.

Guess how much it costs? $79,000!

Yes, it’s $79,000. Wow, … $79,000.

At first, I didn’t believe it’s $79,000; I thought it’s $79.00 or $790.00. So, I went to google to find its price at other stores. Well, you’ve got to believe it.
